AN INTENSE LEARNING EXPERIENCE

MAD SUMMER SCHOOL is an international and enjoyable learning experience showcasing the curriculum offer at School of Media Arts and Design (ESMAD). They include the areas of Cinema and Photography, Design (Graphic and Industrial), Digital media, Web Development and are centred upon the rich cultural, industrial and geographical features of the metropolitan Porto area.

Taking place in the Portuguese north coast of Vila do Conde and Póvoa de Varzim, the MAD SUMMER School offers advanced masterclasses by renowned tutors in combination with an exciting program of film screenings, evening talks, concerts and a group exhibition, during "Curtas Vila do Conde" International Short Film Festival. Each 5 day program will be punctuated by a dynamic mix of master-classes, workshops, conferences, screenings and studio sessions related to an annual theme "Discovering the Unseen". The artworks developed during the week will result in a group exhibition at Centro de Memória de Vila do Conde.

Based in Vila do Conde and Povoa de Varzim we will create a creative environment ideal for sharing ideas and practices, and also an enjoyable framework for teaching, learning and the development of ideas. According to the subject, seminars and other sessions will differ in terms of their duration, but each program will provide opportunities to meet other students and teachers and to engage in the acquisition of new skills and experiences.

LEISURE, LOCAL CULTURE AND ACTIVITIES

MAD SUMMER SCHOOL also aims to promote an approach to the local culture and to the historical and geographical richness of the cities of Vila do Conde and Póvoa de Varzim. Thus, in addition to the specific focus of MAD Summer School, there is also space for the leisure and local activities such as surfing, yoga, concerts and other social events.

ESMAD also maintains a partnership with the Vila do Conde International Short Film Festival, whose programming takes place simultaneously with the MAD Summer School program. All registered at MAD SUMMER SCHOOL are entitled to a free pass for the official sessions of the festival Curtas.

Venue

The first edition of MAD SUMMER will be held at the Media Arts and Design School (ESMAD), a School of P.PORTO, Portugal. The School of Media Arts and Design shares the facilities with the School of Hospitality and Tourism, offering quality spaces and excellent equipment. The School of Media Arts and Design is perceived as a national and international reference in the training of competitive, creative and innovative professionals, in the areas of Design, Film, Photography, Multimedia and Web.
ESMAD is located in the Campus 2 of Póvoa de Varzim / Vila do Conde and has a strong relation with these two beatiful and engaging cities.

Getting to the venue:

• By Car: highway A28 (exit 15 - Vila do Conde).
• By Metro: the closest stations to ESMAD is Vila do Conde Station (express service) or Alto de Pêga Station. From Dragão stadium – Póvoa de Varzim, direction Póvoa de Varzim, Vila do Conde station.
• By Bus: Express (Póvoa de Varzim).
• By Plane (*):Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport is located between Vila do Conde and Porto. If you want to go from the Airport Metro Station to ESMAD you must change in Verdes Station to Line E (Red) and take the direction of Póvoa de Varzim.
