About

MAD Summer School is an intensive international program that takes place at the School of Media Arts and Design (ESMAD), located in Vila do Conde. For 5 days, between July 16 and 20, mentors and participants reflect about the proposed themes, share ideas and work through workshops and master classes. MAD Summer School Multimedia is aimed at enthusiasts, students and professionals with experience in artistic creation, digital media industry and scientific research with particular interest in the areas of digital arts, animation, interface and interaction design, mixed environments and / or multimedia performance. The theme of the 2018 edition, "Discovering unseen realities", intends to reflect how the intersection between the Media and Digital Arts has fostered new relationships between the physical and virtual worlds with new ways of being, thinking and existing that change: how we relate to others, to the world and to us; our perception of reality with the exposure of relationships to date never observed or understood; the consistency of identity and reality that transform and unfold. The work developed by the participants should: reflect local history and culture, the annual theme proposed by MADSS; and research innovative languages, methodologies and formats. At the end of the week, the works carried out will be exhibited / presented at the "Centre of Memory" museum in Vila do Conde.

Theme of the 2018 edition | Discovering unseen realities

The intersection between the Media and Digital Arts has fostered new relationships between the physical and virtual worlds with new ways of being, thinking and existing that change: how to relate to others, to the world and to us; our perception of reality with the disclosure of relationships to date never observed or understood; the consistency of identity and reality that transform and unfold. In this way, reality and truth cease to be singular and acquire a contextual, multiple and hybrid character.
